Do you have writer friends who lift you up when you’re down? Push you to write better and challenge you to make your characters more dynamic? Call you out when you “info dump” and reassure you when you struggle with a new scene?
I do. Their names are Fran, Ingrid, Jackie and Katie and they encourage me to be a better writer. Without these four amazing women, I may have given up on my dream of publishing a novel long ago. They live all over the country and have varying lives but they share the same dream I do, and it’s comforting to know I have them to turn to in good times and bad.
I’m thinking about my friends today because I just read an amazing post written by Jean Oram on the From The Write Angle blog (www.fromthewriteangle.com). She outlines the top 5 reasons why writers love writers and it made me think about these four incredible women and how fortunate I am to have them in my life.
Do you have writing friends that you collaborate with in person or online? Do they encourage you to press on after rejections? Do they cheer your victories?
Let me know. I’d love to hear your stories about how your writer friends changed your life.
