I totally agree about being able to predict the end of the series. I knew what was going to happen at the end of Mockingjay and the Unearthly series. For once, I would just like to be surprised

I have a series on ice – but they are each set in different places, different people, different plots. Only a unifying theme.

The book I’m querying was originally meant as a stand alone. Seriously. By the end, I realized I had a trilogy. Again, different time, different place, different MCs. I have the idea for a series with the same MC – but I can’t see it going more than three books. In that I can take the character as far as she needs to go.

I don’t read a lot of series, because eventually I can predict them, and I hate that. Especially if I fell in love with the characters. Enjoyed watching them grow and change, then wham, the next one comes out and I know from the first chapter what is going to happen and how it’s going to end. It’s enough to induce tears *sniffles*

So, basically – what you said LOL

I think Robin Hobb does a good job in the farseer series. In my own trilogy I plan to span enough time between books that the setting has it’s own unique qualities as well as bring in new characters. And maybe those new chracters bring out something in existing characters we hadn’t seen before?

Absolutely agree about MOCKINGJAY. I think the story had run out of steam by that time.
